Auction Dilemma: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Vs. Porsche 911 GT3 RS

This edition of Auction Dilemma explores a classic confrontation between two great names in motoring. A 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray auction on eBay and a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS auction at Bring a Trailer. Let’s dive in to check out the details.

2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

While Corvettes have been around since 1953, the C8 Vette has little to do with previous generations other than the name and arguably the LT2 engine. Now with mid-engine configuration, the all-new Corvette could finally take on the world’s best. This 2020 Corvette comes across as a wolf in sheep’s clothing because the white paint does little to call out the car’s capabilities. And with only 2,200 miles on the odometer, the seller has had little opportunity to show off.

Of course, the Corvette is all about power, and the C8 generation doesn’t disappoint. Chevy cleverly crafted its newest small-block V-8 with impressive capabilities, namely 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Which, according to Chevrolet, translates into a standstill to 60 mph time of only 3.0 seconds. This Corvette is missing the Z51 Performance upgrade, which adds another 5 hp, but does that really matter? An eight-speed automatic manages rear-wheel power on all C8 models.

As this Corvette is the mid-tier 2LT model, there are many nifty extras to accompany the black leather interior. Onboard equipment includes navigation, heated and ventilated power seats, a heads-up display, Bose audio system, a Performance Data Recorder (which records video and driving data). In addition, the optional front lift system is included.

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

This 2019 911 eschews the subtlety of its Auction Dilemma counterpart for an in-your-face effect that cannot go unnoticed. Nuclear Green might be a better name for the car’s color than Porsche’s actual Lizard Green tag. Toss in the rear wing and the ‘GT3 RS’ graphics on the side, and there’s not much you’d don’t already know about this Porsche. In addition, the Weissach upgrade means the car has a carbon-fiber roof panel and an enhanced suspension setup, among other improvements. The seller’s restraint is commendable as this two-year-old GT3 RS only has 3,300 miles on the clock. It’s noteworthy that when new, this Porsche cost $238,000.

And this is no ordinary 911; a GT3 RS means under the rear deck is 4.0L flat-six capable of making 520 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automatic with manual mode transfers power to the rear wheels. Porsche says the GT3 RS takes 3.0 seconds to hit 0-60 mph, tying the Corvette. Of course, three seconds is an astonishing time for any car, but you have to give the Vette credit for accomplishing this for less than a third of the Porsche’s price. Sadly, we’ll never get to see how these two vehicles stack up on the track.

Moving on to the interior of the Porsche, we discover that Lizard Green is well-represented here as well. From Alcantara seat inserts to interior accents, this distinctive color is hard to miss here. Other cabin equipment includes a Bose audio system, cruise control, carbon-fiber dash trim, aluminum pedals, a factory fire extinguisher, and the Chrono Package with a dash-mounted timer.

Plenty Of Power, Regardless Of Price

It’s nice to know that in a world of supercharged and turbo’d AWD sports cars, a pair of naturally aspirated rear-wheel-drive vehicles can hold their own and then some. The Corvette Stingray auction has two days remaining and a current high bid of $105,000. With a $177,000 best offer, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS auction has four days left.
