Dhakeshwari, meaning 'Goddess of Dhaka' is the primary Hindu temple in Bangladesh. In the year 1966 it began to be called Dhakeshwari Jatiya Mandir, the result of a campaign by Bangladeshi Hindu groups who had been demanding official recognition following the declaration of Islam as the state religion in 1988. It is state-owned, giving it the distinction of being Bangladesh's National Temple. According to legend Dhakeshwari was built in the 12th century by King Ballal Sen of the Sena dynasty. It is said the king dreamt of a statue of the goddess Durga buried in the jungle and after finding the statue installed it in his temple as Dhakeshwari. The current architectural style of the temple cannot, however, be dated to the 12th century because of the numerous renovations, repairs and rebuildings that have taken place over time. The present temple is two hundred years old and was built by an agent of the East India Company, though quite probably the agent merely renovated the existing temple. It is a three-roomed structure with a veranda in front and has beautiful wooden doors with carvings. In the northeastern corner of the complex are four small Shiva temples constructed in the 16th century by King Mansing. The Dhakeshwari temple is open everyday and people from all religions are welcome. . . . #bangladesh #bangladeshphotography #dhakadiaries #dhakadiaries #shaktipeeth #dhakeshwaritemple #durga #maadurga #shivshakti #hindutemple #indiatravels #indianculture #discoverindia #storiesofindia #amazingindia #indiafeatures #traveldiaries #incredibleindia #templesofindia #india_gram #architectureofindia #exploreindia #indianculture #discoverindia #vibrantindia #indiantemples #ancientindia #vibeindian

Introducing Number 8 The conclusion of this project marks a milestone for me personally. The last one of projects I did for nearly 15 years - this one was the smallest but the prettiest. An 18 storey "big black building" on the Noida Expressway - I wanted to create a truly beautiful Capital Region building, referencing both a historical cladding material of the city, as well as interwar New York Deco. Number 8 is one of the greenest structures in the National Capital area, with a phenomenally low energy usage and some pretty nifty softer green measures put together by the sustainability arm of @studiovirkotak Every tile and brick and stone has been chosen by me (hyperbole bit?), and every nook and corner has been designed for a reason and a functionality. The best part of the building is the interior volumes, finishings and art which are for future posts. @sumeet_khari #number8 #no8noida #architecture #architecturephotography #tower #building #build #buildingsofinstagram #instapic #instaarchitecture #black #blackstone #stonecladding #deco #artdeco #artdecostyle #lutyens #lutyensdelhi #delhi #delhiarchitecture #indiaarchitecture #architectureofindia #green #greenbuilding #leedplatinum #virkotakstudio #virkotak #studiovirkotak

Temple Archaka or a Pujari is a Vedic. As an up keeper of Sanatana Dharma, he is called "Purohita", Combining two sanskrit words Pura = City/First & Hita = wellness/Position, meaning he holds important position in Dharma & Achara/wishes the wellbeing of Puram he lives in. Ancient Indian Literature generally mentions about two Purohitas 1. Raja Purohita (advises Kings) 2. Rishi Purohita (advises society) The one who attains supreme knowledge is called Brahman irrespective of his birth and thus can become "Purohita" says Potuluri Veera BrahmendraSwami quoting Valmiki & Vashishtha. Which is also amply certified by ancient Indian Literature. Angkor Wat translates to "City of Temples" or simply "City Temple." New temples and ruins are being discovered nearly every year. Angkor Wat, Cambodia's famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, is breathtaking and thrilling to explore. The temple ruins have a way of igniting the inner archaeologist in all of us. You won't soon forget wandering the sprawling, carved ruins of a once-great civilization! The history of the City of Temples is riddled with incredible facts and events. For instance, Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world, but it didn't make the new list of Seven Wonders of the World, and while it was previously rented for profit to an entity outside of Cambodia, the local government took back control in 2019. Angkor Wat is the primary reason that more than 50% of international tourists visit Cambodia each year. Cambodians are proud of their ancient monument, so proud that they put it on the Cambodian flag in 1850. The sandstone used to construct Cambodia's national monument, at least 5 million tons worth, had to be carried from a quarry 25 miles away. . . #angkorwat #angkorthom #angkorwattemple #cambodia #cambodiatravel #cambodiatrip #vishnu #shiva #shiv #angkortemples #angkortemple #hindutemple #indiatravels #indianculture #discoverindia #storiesofindia #amazingindia #indiafeatures #traveldiaries #incredibleindia #templesofindia #india_gram #architectureofindia #exploreindia #indianculture #discoverindia #vibrantindia #indiantemples #ancientindia #vibeindian

Into the world of mighty history. Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal Madurai is a place worth admiring and exploring, but list will be incomplete without this awesome palace of our ancient time. Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal (Palace), a pride Dravidian culture monument build in 17th Century, unfortunately almost demolished due to continues destructive war and Mugal & colonialism exploitation. After Independence palace declared as national monument, however same was a considered to be one of the wonders of south during peak time of Madurai. The palace was divided into two main parts, namely Swarg Vilasam and Ranga Vilasam. Design and construction are extremely different from other so called Tamilnadu monuments and has unique interior style also. It’s hardly 2 KM from famous Madurai Temple. When visit here, must try Madurai’s own Jigarthanda too. Next time when you visit Madurai, don’t just be a devotee be a explorer too. #thirumalainayakkarmahal #thirumalainayakar #madurai #maduraidiaries #tamilnadu #tamilnadutourism #tamilnaduphotography #bangalorediaries #monuments #monumentsofindia #streetphotography #travelphotography #travelrealindia #travelblogger #_travelersofindia #indiantravelgram #phographersofindia #ancientarchitecture #architectureofindia #dreamiiephotography #solotravel #solotraveler #canonclicks

Kathgola (also known as Katgola) is a suburb in the city of Murshidabad, West Bengal and was once the capital of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa during the reign of the Nawabs of Murshidabad Kathgola Palace, in Kathgola Gardens is a beautiful, palace steeped in history and is a major tourist attraction. It is frequently featured in many TV serials, media reports, etc. A four-storeyed impressive palatial palace with an ornamented facade, valuable paintings, mirrors and priceless furniture, besides a small pond and a baoli - step well. it was in this palace, a decisive and important political event took place before the battle of Plassey (1757) that put the British East India Company on the pedestal under the clever military leadership of Robert Clive. Years later, this grave event had its repercussions, leading to the complete control over Bengal, part of Bihar and Orissa by the wily British. The British economy that was in doldrums then saw its gradual ascendancy decades later. The same political event taken place here opened the Pandora's box and the Indian political scenario changed drastically marked by complete domination of the English company over the Indian subcontinent in the later centuries, fall of so many rich Indian kingdoms and the emergence of British Imperialism. Here at Kathola palace, William Watts and Walsh met Mir Jafar, a relative of Nawab of Bengal, three days after the Battle of Plassey in 1757 and had discussion concerning payment of money stipulated by them before the battle was fought. . I believe that a trusting attitude and a patient attitude go hand in hand. You see, when you let go and learn to trust God, it releases joy in your life. And when you trust God, you're able to be more patient. It was built by Kumargupta 1 of Gupta Empire in the 6th century B.C. and remained the best without any hindrance for over 800 years with around 10,000 students and nearly 2700 faculties who came from all over the world (Korea, Japan, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Greater Iran, Persia, Greece, Mongolia and many more). The University had 10 temples, meditation centers and the greatest library of the world divided into three building-Ratnasagara (nine storeyed building), Ratnadadhi and Ratnaranjaka; which not only contained religious manuscripts but had a huge collection of books on literature, astrology, philosophy, science, warfare, history, economics, law, geology, maths, architecture, metallurgy, linguistics, astronomy, medicine and many more. And knowledge was imparted on all these subjects virtually. Most renowned departments were Mathematical and Astronomical. At that point of time, the Library was a very prestigious and renowned repository of the Buddhist knowledge throughout the world. The library of the Nalanda University was called Dharma Gunj which meant the “Mountain of Truth”. The library constituted of three main buildings, which stood up to nine stories. It was composed of hundreds and thousands of volumes of books. This is quite evident from the fact that it took about 3-6 months for it to burn down completely, at the time when it was set aflame by the Muslim invaders. The three library buildings were called upon by their respective names that included Ratnasagara-The Sea of Jewels, Ratnarañjaka-Delighter of Jewels and Ratnodadhi-The Ocean of Jewels. . . #nalandauniversity #nalanda #bihartourism #biharsehai #bihardiaries #biharexplore #buddhism #internationaluniversity #ancientwisdom #ancienthistory #ancientindia #indiatravels #indianculture #discoverindia #storiesofindia #amazingindia #indiafeatures #traveldiaries #incredibleindia #templesofindia #india_gram #architectureofindia #exploreindia #indianculture #discoverindia #vibrantindia #indiantemples #ancientindia #vibeindian

Padma potikas (Lotus Brackets) & Padma Kalikas (Lotus buds) were important elements of Kakatiya Architecture. The iconography of this Torana is as follows: 1. Each Pair of pillars on both sides represent Duality - Atman & Brahman. 2. FOUR pillars together represent Purusharthas 3. TWO Potikas (Brackets) on both the sides with Yalis and 5 & 7 layers respectively. 4. TWO Hamsas (Swans) represent the supreme reality - Brahman. 5. FIVE Lotus Buds on the top are PanchaBhutas. 6. SEVEN Lotus buds in the bottom of lintel are SaptaLokas. 7. Between Panchabhutas & Saptalokas are EIGHT Malikas (Garlands) indicating the Ashtadikpalas. Seeking its inspiration from the iconic Konark Sun temple in Odisha and the temples of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, the Bhoramdeo temple in Chhattisgarh is a treat for the heritage buff. Raised to Lord Siva, this 11th century structure set amidst the verdant enclaves of the Maikal range in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district, is renowned for its aesthetic treatment of erotica rendered in skillfully-carved panels that feature couples in a variety of poses. There are splendid detailing of figurines, animals as well as deities. The carvings have earned Bhoramdeo the label ‘Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh’. The Gond tribesmen, who have inhabited the region of Kawardha since ancient times, consider Shiva as Bhoramdeo. Built in the Nagara-style (North Indian) of Hindu temple architecture, the 18 m long and 11 m wide Bhoramdeo is sited about 18 km away from the Indo-European-styled Kawardha Palace where visitors can enjoy a pleasant stay. The annual Bhoramdeo festival is held in the month of March. The temples are located just two hours away from Raipur. . How should campus edges be treated? Should they be just walls? Here is an institutional building in a residential neighborhood with its access along a relatively narrow street with residences on the other side. Considering the scale of the Auditorium building it was imperative that the edge of the campus be treated sensitively, we have a series of colonnades supporting space-frames that double up as floating parking, the space-frames supports vegetation that shades the same bringing landscape onto the street and the street is visually widened. This also makes the building - camps participative. All the elements come together forming a visually soft yet a functional edge that gradually scales up the built form rather than being abrupt. #architecture #architectureofindia #modernarchitecture #sustainable #landscape #street #urban #urbandesign #bhavnagar #lifeofanarchitect #architectureofgujarat #gujarat #india #indian #rmnm
