Pontiac GTO 389 4spd Barn Treasure from 1966 — Resting for More Than 25 Years…

1966 Pontiac GTO 389 4spd Barn Find – Sitting For Over 25 Years - TopCarNews

The majority of good barn finds appear to be spread via word of mouth. According to an old friend, her step-grandmother cousin’s allegedly has an old car parked in a shed because her husband died. But, unlike the previous barn finds, this 1966 Pontiac GTO was discovered thanks to the internet and a persistent connection to social media. In a phone interview with us, Tony Salerno said, “I’m always looking on there.”

He was referring to Facebook Marketplace, one of the most popular online marketplaces for people trying to buy and sell everything from furniture to vinyl records to, of course, automobiles. Tony wasted no time in contacting the seller after seeing an ad for a 1966 Pontiac GTO for a very affordable price.

“She didn’t have a lot of details about the car,” Tony explained us, “except that she was the one who drove it.” He was aware of the car’s 389-c.i. Pontiac engine, but it was the transmission that caught him off guard. “She had it listed as an automatic,” but then I discovered it had the original Hurst four-speed shifter!”

Despite the fact that the 1966 Pontiac GTO had been sitting for over 25 years, it was in excellent condition. The barn’s floor was made of wood, but it was raised off the ground to keep moisture out for all those years.

Tony returned home after reaching an agreement on the price, then returned a few days later with his truck and trailer to pick up the barn find GTO. He got the classic 1966 Pontiac GTO running and driving for the first time in a quarter-century after a few months of tinkering on and off.
